Fake It Till You Make It
Act As If You Are the Person You Wish to Be

Back in the early 1960's, when I began doing seminars and lectures in ernest, I coined the phrase Fake It Till You Make It. Over the years it became one of the statements I repeated over and over in the hopes that I and others might actually learn the power it held, and then actually apply it.

The concept, then and now, is contained in the idea that we have what we create and what we don't create we don't have. The universe that we experience day to day is actually a direct reflection of what we imagine ourselves to be.

It is amazing to see how many ways this simple concept has been reflected back to me. It is also astounding how many successful people are a reflection of having done just this.

I once heard the story that Stephen Speilberg, when he first started his film career, walked onto the lot of Universal Studios, found a vacant office and set up shop. Each day he would talk to the guards as if he were one of the resident film makers and soon he was. Jim Carrey used to go to a vantage point above Hollywood and imagine that every producer in town wanted him to star in one of their films. He even envisioned the amount of money he would make by a certain date, which was a considerable amount. He continued this until he completely believed it was true. The universe then proved he was right.

Since those early seminars, this simple idea has been echoed by many.

  • We create our own reality.
  • The reality we experience is a direct reflection of who and what we imagine ourselves to be.
  • The universe is a mirror. If you don't like the reflection you see in the mirror you don't try to change the mirror. You change yourself and the mirror then reflects the change.
  • All is vibration and the universe responds to the vibration we eminate. It then matches that vibration with similar vibrations.
  • What you get in life is a direct response to the dominant vibration your are eminating.
  • You are completely responsible (Cause Over - not to blame) whatever happens to you.
  • What you put out is what you get back.
  • You cannot be the effect of that which you are not the vibration of.
  • If the vibration is not a part of who you are, then the thing cannot find you and you cannot find it. It's physically impossible.
This morning I got an idea that I have gotten many times before. Why not act as if you actually were the person you want to be?

Ya know, that's not a bad idea.

I might just do that.
