Eliminating Worry and Re-Focusing Your Creative Energy Part 1 - Eliminating Worry By Acknowledging and Admiring How Well You Do It Many years ago a great friend of mine pointed out a marvelous piece of wisdom. He said, "That which is not admired tends to persist." Well, as strange as it may sound: acceptance, acknowledgment and admiration of your tendency to worry is the key to vanishing it from your life. With that in mind: - Take three deep breaths. Consider the breaths to be enjoyable and refreshing.
- Now identify something or someone that you tend to worry about.
- Now, as best you can, simply accept the fact that you do worry about that. For now, let go of any impulse to do anything about it. Breath and let go. Let go of any impulse or desire to change the fact that you worry. For this moment in time, let go of any impulse or desire to do anything about the tendency. Let go of any resistance to your tendency to worry. Let go of any negative judgment or blame of yourself or anyone else. Simply accept the fact.
- Now say to yourself, "With regard to my tendency to worry, SO WHAT!" Let go of the tendency to worry about worrying. Let go of making it an important subject.
- Now see how logical it is for you to worry. Identify exactly what you are worried might happen. Acknowledge and accept for this moment any belief you have that these things really could happen. Also acknowledge the idea that they might not happen. Accept your current beliefs regarding what might or might not happen. Allow yourself to have these beliefs. Let go of any tendency to negatively judge yourself for having these beliefs. Simply let it be OK.
- Now sit back. Again, take three more deep breaths, close your eyes and admire what a great job you do of worrying. Congratulate yourself for being so good at it. Pat yourself on the back for having gotten so good at it that you can effortlessly do it at will. Do this until you smile or you feel good. If you feel really good, end off at this point or go onto the next part of this exercise. If you are not smiling or you don't feel that good, go onto step 7.
- Repeat steps 1 to 6 again, spotting something else you tend to worry about.
Part 2 - Redirecting Your Energy So that It Feeds What You Do Want. - Identify something you worry about.
- Identify as precisely as you can what specific event you are worried will or will not happen.
- Now use what you don't want to happen to identify what you do want to happen. If you are worried you won't have enough money or health, clearly identify that you want wealth and vibrant health. If you are worried you won't have the kind of relationship you want, clearly identify that you want a wonderful relationship.
- Now close your eyes and imagine that you have what you want. Ignore anything and everything that tends to say or imply that you do not. Let your imagination be real. Make it as wonderful and real as you possibly can.
Do this for the pure pleasure of doing it. Do not do it in order to change physical reality. Do it for the pure pleasure you get from imagining these things. Do not require the physical reality to change. Let go of any such requirement, for in doing so you grant the greatest possibility of change. - Keep imagining things being the way you want them until you feel great. Remember you are imagining that they ARE the way you wish them to be. You are not imagining that they WILL BE the way you want them to be.
Be aware that there is no limit to the amount of gain you can get from this exercise. The only limiting factors are your belief that there is no more to be gotten or your tendency to create counter-thoughts and ideas. If such counters occur and you wish the exercise to become valuable again, I invite you to admire what a great job you did of creating the counter-ideas or beliefs you find yourself saddled with. See them as valid ways of creating a particular experience and emotion relative to the exercise. Then simply do the exercise again as if you had never done it before.
