Including Consciousness In Our General Theory of Physics

In a classic Science Fiction story called "Forbidden Planet", a civilization called the Krell had apparently advanced to the point of having created a massive machine that could receive orders telepathically from anyone in the civilization. The machine would then create any wanted object and instantly transport it anywhere on the planet. The only problem was the Krell were no longer around to enjoy their creation. Only the machine remained.

As the story progressed, we learned that the machine also received orders from the Id (the evil subconscious mind that harbored evil and destructive intentions). Hence, their new creation had, unbeknownst to them, materialized monsters and destructive devices that soon destroyed all of the Krell. There was no one left to enjoy the great machine that forever repairs and maintains itself.

So, if we want to believe such a thing is possible, it may behoove us to clean up our Id (and the rest of our act) before we build too many conscious-sensitive machines.

Actually, there are philosophies that contend that we are not yet building such machines because we have not yet fully handled our impulses to negatively judge others to the point of intending their demise.

In the "WonderWorld Theme Park" and "Wonderworld University Materials" (details to be posted here soon), we devote entire areas and courses to the age-old goal of being able to create anything and everything we want without the need to harm anyone (including ourselves) in the process.

Thus, in this series, we seek to optimistically go forth in pursuit of the know-how that will enable us to create wondrous machines that do what we tell them to do even when we use a remote control device as esoteric as our telepathic thoughts.

A POSSIBLY WORKABLE APPROACH

Some in the scientific community may deem this to be a most unscientific approach to the steps needed to pull this star-high goal into reality, but many of our great accomplishments were at least partially inspired by popular Science Fiction authors from Jules Verne to those who write today.

In the past it has often been customary to divorce the spirit of man from cold scientific work. Blind and double-blind experiments have sought to separate out the observer and the emotions of the observer. It is now becoming readily apparent that many of these blind experiments kept us blind to some key truths and discoveries.

Also, when we do pull off something we have not ever done before, it is likely to spring from some concepts that are very DIFFERENT from the ones we have been used to. Common synonyms and judgments of DIFFERENT are STRANGE, UNUSUAL, CRACK-POT, WEIRD and OFF THE DEEP END.

With some pride I can say that many have graced me with these labels either orally or telepathically.

Actually, when I first began to ask myself the question, "How could we get a device to telepathically recognize us if we were a thousand miles away?" my imagination soared into many areas. Then, as I sought to codify and organize these thoughts into a logical sequence of steps, I ended up with two things:

  1. A sequence of steps that might work in the real world, and...
  2. a treatment and script for a Science Fiction movie that could entertain the public into an awareness and support of the concepts, while also providing us with the funds necessary to undertake the project. The treatment for the as yet unmade film is called "The Universe Projector".*
The sequence of potentially workable steps will be explored in detail in this series, but they fundamentally consist of the following:
  1. Entice one or more mathematicians with a flair for the philosophical to work up a number of equations that would include consciousness in our general theory of physics.
The key objective would be to design a model that would support the creation of devices that include consciousness (as a reflection of individual consciousness) as a component part of the device itself.
  2. Identify, define and codify the electromagnetic spectrum, or signatory vibration, of a particular individual to the point of being able to design and create a mechanical duplicate of the pattern.
  3. Design and manufacture circuitry capable of magnifying the mechanical signatory vibration pattern of an individual.
  4. Design a signatory vibration field generator and feedback system capable of recognizing a particular individual pattern.
  5. Grow crystals in a strong electromagnetic or laser light environment that causes the crystal to incorporate the pattern in its matrix.
  6. Use the above device to create a computer core capable of transmitting a field that recognizes the signatory vibration pattern of particular individuals.
  7. Design and construct other practical life enhancing devices that utilize the fundamental consciousness recognizing components.
  8. Make sure the lessons of the Krell are taken into account in the manufacturing and distribution of such devices!
