 2nd Chapter of
The Johnny Raff Chronicles - The Scientology Years

These  Chronicles are A Fun and Entertaining Story of
Experiencing our Unlimited God-Like Spiritual abilities

It is said that when “The Christ” was performing miracles, he turned to his followers and said, “These things Ye Shall Do and Greater Things”. These Chronicles are the story of how I discovered he was right.

About a month ago as of this July 2010 writing, I was invited to a birthday party at the home of a delightful Italian gal. I was told that a number of Ex-Scientologists who had left the church in the seventies and eighties would be there along with a bunch of Scientologists who had left recently.

It was a scrumptious affair, and one of the highlights of the evening occurred when one of The Old Timers recognized me and exclaimed, “It’s the Magic Thetan!” With that a wave of pure delight permeated into my being for that was the first time I heard anyone refer to me by that name in nearly thirty years.

A few weeks previous to that another Old Timer had called me out of the blue exclaiming that he owed me two hundred and fifty dollars for a seminar of mine that he had attended nearly thirty years ago and he wanted to pay me. Inviting me over to dinner I was thrilled to spend an evening with a few beautiful beings who had worked directly with Ron for many years. As we pleasured our taste buds with a number of culinary delights, we laced our spirits with all sorts of amazing stories of The Early Days of Scientology magic and misery.

Both of these events were particularly special to me, for it was the first time in thirty years that I got to spend time with people who had left the confines of organized Scientology, and gone off, as I had, into the infinite expanse of The MultiVerse to see what truths and magic it might contain. (The MultiVerse - the infinite number of universes that our imagination and our unlimited spiritual selves create.) Although these people had elected to leave the confines of organizational Scientology, they had not elected to reach out and see if there were any other ways of achieving total freedom in addition to the path that Ron had so beautifully orchestrated into existence. I, on the other hand, had elected to explore The MultiVerse from one side of to the cosmos to the other.

Ironically my first experiences with the pure magic that Ron’s applied philosophy tools could lead one to, occurred with a few Really Old Timers, people who has studied and trained with Ron back in the fifties.

It all began when I was working part time for Continental Airlines while attending full time college classes that would enable me to obtain a Space Electronics Engineer Degree that was designed to entice the rest of the world into the illusion of thinking that I really knew what I was doing.

At the time, I was a bit proud of the fact that The Bag Handling Scheme I had engineered into existence enabled me to replace three other bagmen and still spend nearly half of my four hour shift lounging luxuriously in the coffee shop. Apparently my predecessors were a constant source of irritation and frustration due to their inability to get all of the bags on the right flights before they lifted off into the wild blue yonder. After replacing them, I asked my boss if it was OK with him if I spend part of my shift in the coffee shop as long as I got all the bags on the right planes before they took off. He replied that he didn’t give a damn what I did as long as I got the job done. (A true and wise product, rather than time oriented, boss).

So periodically during my shift, once I had successfully lined up and targeted all the bags for delivery at just “The Right Time”, I would park my cart-toting tug at the terminal building, unzip and remove my blue Continental Airlines ground crew jumper, and bound up the steps to the coffee shop.

It was there that I met Liza.

Liza Thomas, as she was known then, was the hostess in the Continental VIP lounge. She was a beautiful, vivacious, delicious, intelligent and sensual woman, and I was a twenty five year old frustrated virgin who had never mustered up the up the courage to ask a lady if she might be willing to go on a date with a nerd like me.

Unbeknownst to me at the time, Liza was an Old Time Scientologist who had developed the magical ability to really listen to, and really acknowledge, the person she was with.

Years after this introduction to the pure magic of real communication skills, a good fiend of mine related a story that illustrated what it was like to bask in the presence of someone who really knows how to listen and acknowledge.

He said that he was at a party of super stars and he was the only name at the party that you would not recognize. He related that he had the joy of meeting and talking with a number of these Hollywood legends and then he was introduced to Phyllis Diller. After speaking with her he continued to roam the party a bit absent minded, for he was amazed to discover that among this sea of phenomenally beautiful and glamorous woman, he was consumed with the feeling that Phyllis Diller was the most beautiful woman there. This feeling dumbfounded him, for he simultaneously was assaulted with the realization that physically Phyllis was anything but the most beautiful woman at the party. However, despite the ongoing assault of his senses and brain that continue to assert that Phyllis’s physical beauty did not exist, he continued to feel that she was the most beautiful woman at the party, and felt compelled to tell her.

So he went back up to her to inform her of his perplexing feeling that she was the most beautiful person there. He said that she was just as gracious and wonderful as she had been at their first meeting. She smiled and thanked him for his consideration of her beauty, and she then informed him that when she was with someone, she did everything in her power to treat them as if they were the only person in the universe, while she also worked to genuinely feel that everything they had to say was of infinite value. It reminded me of the Ron’s Manners Bulletin where he stated that the first and most vital characteristic of good manners was the ability to genuinely value the person in front of you and to value everything they had to say.

Following that Phyllis Diller story, I created a Phyllis Diller Award for the staff and clients of my Seminar Magic company. It was a reward designed to be an acknowledgment of their demonstrated ability and willingness to treat everyone they met as if they were the personification of everything valuable in the universe. As a result of sharing my newly created award with Phyllis Diller, we became good friends.

Well that was the kind of skill Liza personified as I sought to impress her nightly with my exploits and knowledge while we ingested vast amounts of caffeine in the Continental coffee shop.

Before long she was inviting me over to her apartment at the end of our respective shifts, an invitation that continually energized my imaginings that my long endured absence of real carnal knowledge might be nearing an end.

On one particular evening, as I plied Liza with the best side of me that I could conjure into existence, she presented me with a copy of “A Stranger in a Strange Land“, Robert Heinlein’s classing Hugo Award winning science fiction novel.

Years later I would learn that Ron and Heinlein had been roommates, but at this juncture, I didn’t even know that Hubbard existed.

In the book Heinlein tells the story of Valentine Michael Smith, a child that accompanied the first expedition to the planet Mars. Orphaned after the entire crew died, Mike was subsequently raised by the Martian elders, beings who had mastered the ability to fully control their minds, bodies and a significant part of their physical reality. (i.e. - Pre Scientology OT’s)

Some twenty years later, a second expedition lands on the red planet, and when they leave, they take Mike “home” to the planet Earth.

Once he reaches Earth, a series of grand adventures ensue after a beautiful nurse rescues Mike from the clutches of a government bent on using The Man from Mars for their own evil purposes.

As I feel there is a rather interesting parallel to my subsequent adventures, and the super human OT experiences that I later experienced in and out of Scientology, I will now plagiarize a description of the book’s plot from the internet site WikipediA.

“Since Smith is unaccustomed to the atmosphere and gravity of Earth, he is confined at Bethesda Naval Hospital. Having never seen a human female, Smith is attended by male staff only. Seeing this restriction as a challenge, Nurse Gillian Boardman eludes guards to see Smith and in doing so inadvertently becomes his first female "water brother" by sharing a glass of water with him. To him, this is a holy relationship based on the customs of arid Mars.

Gillian tells reporter Ben Caxton about her encounter with Smith, and they, together with Jubal Harshaw, a famous author who writes under several names, try to counteract the government's lies about Smith. Gillian persuades Smith to leave the hospital with her, but they only get as far as Ben's apartment before agents attempt to kidnap them. Smith causes the agents to disappear, and he is so shocked by Gillian's terrified reaction that he enters what seems to be a  catatonic state.

Smith continues to demonstrate psychic abilities and superhuman intelligence coupled with a childlike naïveté. When Jubal tries to explain religion to him, Smith understands the concept of God only as "one who groks", which includes every living person, plant, and animal. This leads him to express the Martian concept of the oneness of life as the phrase "Thou art God". Many other human concepts—such as war, clothing, and jealousy—are strange to him, while the idea of an afterlife is something he takes as a given because the government on Mars is composed of "Old Ones", the spirits of Martians who have died.

Eventually Harshaw brokers a deal which includes freedom for Smith and recognition that human law, which would have granted ownership of Mars to Smith, has no applicability to a planet already inhabited by intelligent aliens.

Now free to travel, Smith becomes a celebrity, and is feted by elite of Earth. He investigates the Fosterite Church of the New Revelation, a populist church where sex, gambling, drinking and other earthly pleasures are not considered sinful but encouraged, even within the church building. The church is organized in a complexity of initiatory levels; an outer circle, open to the public; a middle circle of ordinary members who support the church financially; and an inner circle of the "eternally saved" — attractive, highly sexed men and women, who serve as clergy and recruit new members. The Church owns many politicians and takes violent action against those who oppose it. Smith also has a brief career as a magician in a carnival where he and Jill share water with the tattooed lady in the show, an "eternally saved" Fosterite woman named Patricia. Eventually Smith starts a Martian-influenced "Church of All Worlds," which teaches its members how to rise above suffering.

Smith's church combines elements of the Fosterite cult (especially the sexual aspects) with mystery religions initiation. Members learn the Martian language and acquire psychic abilities. The church is eventually besieged by Fosterites for practicing "blasphemy" and the church building is destroyed. However, Smith and his followers teleport to safety. Smith is arrested by the police but he escapes by disintegrating the prison walls and he returns to the hotel where his followers are staying. Smith explains to Jubal that his gigantic fortune has been bequeathed to the Church. With it and their paranormal abilities, Church members will be able to take over the world and reshape human societies and cultures. Smith leaves the hotel to confront the crowd, instead of performing large miracles he simply tries to talk to the mob, but they attack and brutally kill him, while he does not try to heal himself.

The book ends with Jubal and some of the Church members returning to Jubal's home, while Smith is promoted to another plane of existence.

In reading this WikipediA internet summary, one can easily see quite a few similarities between Heinlein’s story, and what later became Scientology,  and the Church of Scientology.

It is a fact that L Ron Hubbard was quite a successful science fiction writer himself during the days when he and Heinlein were friends. However, I am not in any way implying, as others have done, that Scientology was simply the wild imaginings of a former Science Fiction writer, for I personally experienced it to be much more than that. It is true that the subject paralleled the wild and amazing happenings portrayed in Science Fiction and fantasy novels, but it also gave rise to amazing happenings that were very real for those of us who experienced them.

Nevertheless one can see a number of things in the story that bare a strong resemblance to the subject of Scientology.

The Valentine Michael Smith of the story was very OT. In many ways he was fulfilling the promise that Christ had given to his apostles as he performed miracles with the greatest of ease. “These things yee shall do and greater things” he said to them, and the Valentine Michael Smith of Heinlein’s story certainly did these things. Christ also told us over and over that it is done unto us as we believe. Well after the Martian elders got through with him Michael was a real believer. Those Martian elders  believed that they were fundamentally spiritual beings who were capable of just about anything. Subsequently in the story, The Man from Mars was blessed with the ability to effortlessly perform numerous reality transforming miracles at The Speed of Thought.

People who share water with Michael became a totally dedicated team that is tenaciously focused on the objective of freeing themselves from all suffering, They continually seek to Grok with life, to understand it to a depth far beyond a humanoid level. They form a “Church of All Worlds” that is focused on the task of clearing the insanities of mankind so that we can all live in peace, harmony and ongoing ecstasy for as long as we like. They believe in the afterlife and they work through many levels of growth, that get them into a condition were they are truly able to enjoy the pleasures of this life and the joys of the after-life when it occurs.

Members of Mike’s church learn a specialize language that enables them to understand things that human languages do not encompass. Thus, like Hubbard in his Scientology years, they developed a terminology for things that the language does not have words for. The members of Mike’s church adhered faithfully to the belief that “Thou Art God“, which is another way of saying you are really OT.

It is interesting to note that the true Second Coming of Christ is reported to be the realization that each of us is The Christ, each of us is a spiritual consciousness that finally accepts Christ’s invitation to perform miracles like he did. This is not a concept that aberrated members of the Catholic church like, for it implies that they loose control of the masses. However, it is a concept that sane and wise members, such as some of the Jesuit philosophers, love, for it opens wide the gates of heaven.

Mike’s church and its members come under attack by government officials and others who are terrified of people who might be developing psychic and OT abilities. God forbid that some people develop the ability to clearly see the evil domination, control and suppressive intent of those indoctrinated into the philosophy of The Divine Right of Kings that makes it their right and duty to control everybody else. More about that later.

Just as a bit of humorous side note. When I first typed Divine Right of Kings, I mistakenly typed is as The Divine Right of Kids. Maybe it wasn’t a mistake after all. Maybe the real freedom lies in the full realization that we all have The Divine Right of Kids.

I personally became completely enthralled with the story of The OT Man from Mars for it directly paralleled my lifetime desire to somehow develop the ability to do real magic. Sitting nightly at Liza’s side I excitedly discussed with her the possibly of doing this kind of magic. Little did I know at the time what she had in mind for me.

Although I could not articulate it at the time, I had developed, in the small town of Bristol Connecticut where I grew up, a strong intention to learn all about the nature of science and life, so that I might one day develop the ability to get a magic carpet off the ground. I figured that if I could do that, I would certainly be able to pick up beautiful woman and fly them into the past for an exciting dinner at The Hanging Garden’s of Babylon.

To date I have not pulled that off, but I have pulled off some things that are just as fantastic, and as we continue, I will share how these things occurred.

Much of the magic-desiring ability of my youth sprang out of my periodical journeys into the three movie palaces of my home town. There, tucked into an obscure part of the balcony that keep me hidden from friends who would ridicule me for daring to attend such “childish movies”, I basked in the glory of a fairy godmother who could materialize anything she desired with a Bibbidi Bobbidi-Boo. Equally enthralling were, the Superman and Flash Gordon cliff hanger Saturday afternoon serials at the Carberry theater, the astounding adventures of Sinbad, a fellow who did get his carpet off the ground, and the many films that offered the promise that one might actually be able to become a super hero.

So my nightly evenings in Lisa’s apartment discussing the nature of Groking the true power and nature of our being, became intensely exciting. Little did I know that they were a precursor to the magic I would shortly experience.

The term Grok in Heinlein’s novel referred to a level of understanding that neither Liza nor I could begin to understand. Many years later I would be blessed with a personal experience of this transcendent level of understanding. The experience would subsequently lead me to my first attempt to create a Quantum Physics Doctorate paper that I entitled “Information by Permeation”. After that, and after a few more amazing experiences, I would set to work on a real doctorate paper that I entitled “Including Consciousness in Our General Theory of Physics.” As I continue I will share the details of my phenomenal Groking experience. However, for now I need to get back to the story at hand, for it concludes with the Advance Human Ability OT experience that immediately followed my adventures with Liza.

“I don’t have affairs with women”, Romeo exclaimed in a relatively new movie version of the infamous persons life. “I make love to women“, he sensually replied, thus confirming in the mind of the swooning woman that he really did Grok what it was all about.

Sharing the magic of Heinlein’s magnificent story night after night with Liza was magic. Hour by hour my affinity for her increased, and hour by hour I imagined that the same things were happening for her. Based on the magnificent feelings that my mental mock-ups were conjuring into existence, I felt that I was on the threshold of experiencing what Romeo had experienced so many times.

Then just as the feelings reached a climax, and I felt myself enmeshed in a delicious anticipation of what was to come, Liza informed me that her boyfriend was going to be conducting A Love, Sex and Marriage Seminar over the weekend, and she wondered if I would like to attend.

“Her Boyfriend!!!”

My mind whirled at the thought. Instantly I felt like I had been thrown out of a plane at twenty thousand feet. Rapidly I plummet off the summit of the grand illusions that I had appointed myself to.

“It isn’t the fall that kills you”, I could hear a part of me saying, “It’s the sudden stop”.

With a thud I slammed into my disappointment. At that juncture in my spiritual and social evolution I was not even afforded the comfort of knowing  that I was the one who had appointed myself to a reality that did not harmonize with the one Liza had appointed herself to.

Struggling to recover, I sought to find something of value in the sea of value that had suddenly vanished from my consciousness.

“A Love, SEX and Marriage Seminar”. I thought. “At least it has something to do with the object of my desires. It might be exciting. Liza would be there, and who knows, I might even get an opportunity to best this Boyfriend”.

So it was that on the 1st and 2nd of May 1965, I arrived at a seminar that was destined to change my life forever.

The seminar took place in the San Fernando Valley apartment of Lou and Judy Jordan. Unbeknownst to me at the time, Louie was a real Old Timer, someone who had studied directly with Ron in the early fifties when Scientology was  teetering on the pinnacle of pure magic.

Louie and Jerry Hedean (Lisa’s “Boyfriend“) would be the two primary people delivering the seminar.

It was here at this event that I also met the great Doctor Harold Thibodeaux, the wondrous, story telling, humorist, chiropractor and old time Scientologist,  that was to become one of my closest and dearest friends.

The life magic material delivered at the event, especially the parts delivered by Louie, the very heavy set grade school teacher-philosopher, was wondrous.

“Sex Across the Tone Scale” and “Love Up the Dynamics” took us from emotional death on the subject, to the highest realms, where pure spirits blended together into the unimaginable bliss of being one with each other in a state of perfect unconditional love.

On the way, we passed through every conceivable personal and social interaction known, and unknown, to man. This included, unconscious celibacy, conscious celibacy, compulsive monogamy, promiscuousness, non-compulsive conscious monogamy, polygamy, polyandry, and a few spiritual states that there were no adequate words to describe. The work was brilliant. It was based on some of Ron’s discoveries, and it paralleled many of the scales and philosophical concepts he had organized and corralled into existence. But the pure genius of Lou’s looks into the diverse nature of Love, Sex and Marriage were, to a great degree his own research and creations.

In their brilliant and often humorous story telling dissertations, Lou and Jerry (Yah, Liza’s boyfriend was brilliant to, although I didn’t want to admit it at the time) explored the nature of love, affinity, sex and the social and organizational marriage contracts that allowed two people to live together with little or no harassment from the culture.

In one part of his presentation, Lou pointed out that a reviewer’s comments on the back cover of  Robert Heinlein’s “A Stranger in a Strange Land“, novel, said that Heinlein was promoting promiscuity in his award winning Sci-Fi novel. “Nothing could be farther from the truth“, Louie exclaimed, “Heinlein was exalting the virtues of true polygamy, not the indiscriminate, irresponsible sexual behavior that is the hallmark of a promiscuous person.”

Polygamy is the custom of having more than one spouse at the same time. Unlike polyandry, the practice of having multiple husbands and one wife, or the practice of one man having multiple wives, polygamy could be any combination of husbands and wives. Historically most attempts to create these sorts of marriages has ended in a disaster of one sort or another. Either the parties are two aberrated to fully eliminate the practice of negatively judging one another, or they are attacked and destroyed by groups who  refuse to accept or tolerate the idea that a group of beings could be sane enough to maintain a state of unconditional love despite any provocation to do otherwise. Jealousy, which Ron defined as a fear of hidden communications, makes a polygamous relationship, or any other relationship for that matter, virtually impossible.

According to Louie, Heinlein was talking about a state where people had genuinely arrived at a non-judgmental state of sanity so profound that they could now live together in a perpetual state of unconditional love.

Although I could see the theoretical possibility that one could successfully love and live in a polygamous relationship without ever creating the negative judgments that destroy them, it would be some time before I discovered the few “Human Aliens” on this planet, and the many aliens elsewhere, who had successfully pulled it off.

During the event I had all sorts of things to say and I had all sorts of questions to ask. I also did my best to impress Liza and Her Boyfriend with my egoic brilliance.

As the seminar continued, I got more and more blown out. In fact I began to feel grander than I ever had before.

However, the real highlight of the event occurred on the second day, when Lou’s beautiful young wife sat across from me in a chair as she prepared to run a process on me that Lou had orchestrated into existence. At the time I didn’t know that there were people who considered that it was a very bad thing for anyone to create a process in Scientology. That privilege it seems was relegated to L Ron Hubbard and to L Ron Hubbard alone. However, at the time I was also not aware that in the early days of Scientology, Ron himself encouraged The Really Old Timers like Louie to create processes out of their understandings of the basic principles and intent behind them. However, despite the fact that it was at that time considered to be a very OK thing to do, in later years Lou would find himself under attack by unethical Ethics Officers and officials in the Church who decided to declare him to be a Suppressive Person for having created what these self-centered, self-important and self-appointed, untrained know-it-alls deemed to be a version of Ron’s Power Processes.

However, be that as it may, the processes that Lou created for his May 1965 Love, Sex and Marriage seminar, were about to catapult me into a magnificent state of consciousness that I didn’t even know was possible.

Fixing me with a firm, yet gentle and loving look, Judy got my full attention and then she proceeded to ask, “What present sexual conditions are not wanted?”

Immediately blood rushed at the speed of thought into may face and other not so prominent parts of my anatomy. The extent and magnitude of the  emotion that flooded through me was astounding. Along with my rushing blood and my intense emotions, there appeared the thought that I could not possible tell this beautiful young woman what wanted sexual conditions were not present in my life.

As Judy waited patiently, alertly and peacefully for me to the answer the question, I struggled with my reluctance to answer, and my mental mock-ups of the rejection and ridicule that I figured I would be assaulted with if I dared to honestly answer the question.

Then I decided what the hell and I just blurted out my answer.

“I have never had any sex and that condition is most unwanted?”, I replied.

“OK“, Judy acknowledged, as she promptly proceeded to the next question.

“OK!”, I said to myself. “It’s not OK”, but before I could muster up the courage to verbalize my complaint, Judy asked me the next question.

“What wanted sexual conditions are not present?”

Well my answer to that question was pretty much the same as the first.

The we proceeded to go down the time track

What unwanted sexual conditions were present 5 years ago, ten years ago, fifteen years ago, twenty years ago?  And What wanted sexual conditions were not present 5 years ago, ten years ago, fifteen years ago, twenty years ago?  When we got to twenty five years ago, I ran out of time as far as this life was concerned, and we ended off with me in a state so glorious and so magnificent, I had no words to describe it.

Unfortunately, or very fortunately as it turned out, I had to work that Sunday night. So when the seminar came to an end in the late afternoon, I asked a few final questions and then I reluctantly dashed away from my new found wondrous friends, and shortly thereafter I arrived at my bag manipulating job at LAX airport.

I was excited, really excited. And I couldn’t wait to get together with Liza so that we could further explore the many wondrous things that had occurred in the seminar.

I rapidly lined up all the bags for the upcoming flights and then I dashed off to the coffee shop to meet Liza.

You know it’s really horrible when you are super exited about something and you desperately want to share it with someone who can really grasp what you are all about only to discover that that person won’t show up.

As I sat impatiently waiting for Liz to appear so I could channel my super level of excitement into someone other than myself, I decided that I would run on myself a version of the process that had blown me totally out of my mind.

So I proceeded to do just that.

Again, I did not know at the time that it was not considered kosher to create your own versions of processes and then run them on yourself in a coffee shop.

Years later I would hear Ron say that sometimes one can get some considerable gains from a thing he called “Coffee Shop Auditing“. However, he was not referring to what I was about to do as I sat in the Continental Airlines terminal coffee shop.

What I decided to do was to see just how far I could go back in time. The Wanted and unwanted sexual conditions process that Judy had run me on in the seminar had taken me back to a very early age, but I was about to discover things even earlier than that.

As I descended down my own personal memory lane, I was surprised to discover that, the very keyed out state I was in, enabled me to contact with amazing clarity incidents when I was five years old, then three year old, then two years old, then one, then six months and then it happened.

I popped into my mothers womb with a degree of clarity greater than I had ever known before. I could feel my presence in my mothers womb, and the feeling of being present there was more vivid than any sense of presence I had experienced anywhere.

I was there but a few moments, and then I popped back into the Continental Airlines coffee shop with a thud.

I was both terrified and excited about this experience. I wondered if Ron Hubbard knew that such things were possible and I vowed to tell him all about it if he didn’t

Decades later I would learn from a very spiritually advanced alien friend that fear and excitement were fundamentally the same energy. When the energy is considered to be negative, we experience it as fear, and when we consider it to be positive, we experience it as excitement.

Well if I was blown out of my gourd before, I was now blow out to a degree that was ten times more intense.

Again, I longed to share these magical occurrences with Liza, but still she had not appeared.

So I got up, left the coffee shop, wondered out into the airline terminal and focused my attention on one of the passengers who was waiting for a flight.

It was then that I experienced my first taste of what it was like to have the powers of a God, for as I looked at the passenger, I discovered that I could hear them think. I could hear them think out loud as if they were speaking out loud.

I almost could not have the experience I was having. It was too amazing to be real, and yet it was happening.

I looked closely to confirm that the persons lips were not moving, and sure enough, they were not.

Then I looked at another person, and I could hear them think. I could hear them as if they were speaking out loud which they were not.

Every person I looked at, I could hear their thoughts.

It happened just that one night, on the evening of the 2nd of May 1965, and to date it has not occurred again.

But it did occur, and it was a precursor to the many other magical experiences that were to follow.
